    ARCHITECT | FOUNDER

Dylan Barlow is an award winning architect based in Northern California with experience working on public art, architecture, and design-build projects in a wide range of scales. Always fascinated with the intersection of design & construction, growing up he spent much of his free time building straw bale structures, rebuilding machines, or designing and building small sheds for his first clients as a teenager. It wasn't until a year of study in Italy where he took a course on the design tradition of renaissance villas and their gardens that the discipline of Architecture came clearly into focus. It was enthralling to study the design elements of the villas then field trip to them in the Tuscan countryside and experience the concept, just as relevant today as it was when it was created!

Dylan's passion for Architecture led him back to California to study in San Francisco and Los Angeles where he ultimately earned a Masters of Architecture from UCLA where he studied with Thom Mayne of Morphosis. Before working in Architecture and starting his own practice he worked designing and managing large scale public art projects in the US and Europe. Following this work on public art projects he spent time working in a few medium size Architecture firms in San Francisco before joining Wrokshop1, a design/build/development firm based in Oakland Ca. Working as a project architect for Workshop1, he developed the skill of bringing a project through all phases of development. From design concepts, entitlements and permitting, construction, and sales. This experience serves him every day in his Architecture Practice Dylan Barlow Architects and in his new business Bakhouse, a design product company focused on democratizing access to architecture while helping increase housing stock in California.
